This might be the most perfect rejection scene in the history of kdramas for me. I’ve honestly lost count on how many times I’ve actually rewatched this specific episode. I see pain as well as relief in ji pds eyes…. He knew what hyejins answer would be, but still went ahead with his confession. He handled the rejection so well, in a very mature manner and I just love him so much for that.
One single thread of gold tied me to you
every little detail in this show has just been so incredibly well thought out and captured. so many thoughts and feelings I wish could express.
most of all, the women – I’ve yet to see another show where every. single. female. character is written exceptionally well. multi-dimensional with so much conviction and poise, each navigating struggles only they are aware of, while still managing to be there for each other and their loved ones.
and don’t even get me started on gamri’s letter – that just for me captured the entire spirit of the show. food, someone to eat with, someone to cook for you, someone to leave food at the door, someone to bring food over, someone to ask if you’ve eaten – that’s what saves us. it’s simple yet so poignant.
and happiness is simplicity, yet simplicity is seemingly so hard to attain. at the end of the day, all we want is to love and be loved, not necessarily in a romantic sense, but just to be among whom we can just be. and have
terriblefood with.
when dusik said
“two pairs of shoes by the door, two toothbrushes in the bathroom.. in a house where we keep those, will you enjoy today, tomorrow, and all of your time with me?”
I turned off my phone, took a deep breath and screamed into the void
Dushik-ah, you should eat. No matter how hard life gets, one should still eat. Ever since you were a child, you’ve been living with a broken heart, and the only thing I could do for you was cook you food. You ate the food I made and grew so tall. You have no idea how proud I was of you. Dushik-ah, do you remember what you said to me? You said that the best thing a parent can do for their child is staying healthy. It’s the same with parents. It tears our hearts out when our children are in pain. Dushik-ah, you are my son and also my grandson. Don’t you ever forget that. Dushik-ah, people should live among other people. Life may seem like a burden to you at times, but if you choose to be among others, just like you did for me, someone will carry you on their back. So Dushik-ah, stop locking yourself up in your house, eat the food I made, and come out to see us.
- Gamri-ssi
Hyejin has to be my absolute favorite character and to whom I’ve related to to a large extent. Bold and loving. Impulsive, impatient. Was judgmental. Thinking money and appearance more important. To - being kind, caring, a great friend, knowing when to apologize and her warm heart just came back up. The way she was unafraid to ask questions bout the future of her relationship. Walking away to reevaluate and coming back to give him the tone and space to work things out. Being Dushik’s rock and standing in solidarity with him. The first to confess her feelings without actually expecting any sorta reciprocation and also proposing first cos she wants that family feeling she’s dreamt bout. Her character development is complete chefs kiss. Oh also, her sling bags!
i hope every single one of you who watched hometown cha cha cha know that the shot of hyejin throwing the bouquet up into the air was intentional. that the fact we don’t see it fall to the ground is intentional. it’s being thrown to audience. it’s for us to catch. to give us the hope for a future filled with love in all its different forms. it’s wishing the blessings of healing and growth and camaraderie and love upon us. we only have to reach out and catch it. i hope you all can catch it.
